RITUALES FUNERARIOS IBÉRICOS EN LA NECRÓPOLIS FUNDACIONAL DE VALENTÍA

Resumen

En este trabajo se presentan algunos aspectos de una de las fases funerarias de la necrópolis romana de la calle Quart de Valencia, datada entre los siglos II y IV d.C. En este conjunto funerario, hasta el momento, el de mayor perduración de la ciudad, destaca un horizonte de cremaciones del siglo I a.C, entre las que se distingue, ya sea por aspectos propios arqueológicos como bioantropológicos, un grupo de carácter indígena en el conjunto de tumbas predominantemente romanas. Dichas tumbas, en número de cinco, tienen una distribución topográfica específica, se caracterizan por el uso sistemático de urnas y muestran una calidad de cremación que las diferencia sustancialmente de aquellas que cumplen un patrón ritual romano.

Summary

This paper highlights some aspects of one of the funerary phases of the Román cemetery of Quart Street in Valencia (2 nd - cent. BC to 4 th - cent. AD). This funerary ensemble is the most ancient and longest in Valencia until the present. It contains a horizon of incinerations dating from the first century before Christ, and with the help of archaeological and bio-anthropological techniques it is possible to distinguish within it a small group with indigenous characteristics quite different of the main Roman type. These five graves are clustered, all of them contain an urn and they show a type of cremation that substantially differentiates them from those that observe the Roman ritual pattern.
